Summer in East Tyrol
To feel the nature, to slow down – it does not matter what a hiker is looking for, as in the hiking tracks of East Tyrol he/she will find it for sure. It is a must for every hiker to discover the genuine side valleys, the cultural wealth of the three thousand metre high mountains and more than 200 mountain and alpine huts.
Hiking can nearly be considered as an obligation for every visitor of East Tyrol. As one day is not enough to explore the amount of highlights amidst the 266 three thousand metre high mountains, there are plenty of different long-distance hikes which represent the panorama and charm of each region. You can encounter the right tour for everyone: from the legendary “Adlerweg” to the historically important “Karnischer Höhenweg” to the “Herz-Ass-Weg”.

Climbing in East Tyrol is synonymous with diversity: There exist five different rock types in a very small area, perfect terrain for beginners and professionals, as well as climbing routes which are quick and easy to reach by e-bike.
If you put on your climbing shoes in East Tyrol you are entering a terrain with real cult status and are following the traces of famous alpinists. The alpinists Steve House, Peter Ortner and Toni Ponholzer count East Tyrol among their favourite areas. And not without reason: The region already persuades climbers with the five different rock types which offer plenty of variety. Furthermore, East Tyrol is home to 266 three thousand metre high mountains, including Austria’s highest mountain – the “Großglockner”. Solitude and wild nature are essential in the national park “Hohe Tauern”. However, the Lienz Dolomites, also referred to as “Die Unholden” (the fiends) by locals due to their bizarre rock formation, are true climbing hot spots above the Sunshine City Lienz.
Also people who are passionate about via ferrates and high rope courses – both related to the climbing sport – will get their money’s worth in the different facilities which are all reachable within a five minutes’ drive from our house.

Cycling amidst the “Großglockner“ and the Dolomites
Wild nature, 266 three thousand metre high mountains and a newly established single-trail network. East Tyrol blossoms out to becoming a special experience for mountain bikers. For those who like it a little bit quieter there are relaxing and delightful cycling tracks leading alongside the river Drau to the city of Lienz and beyond the border to Carinthia.
Delightful tours with cult status
For those looking for a more relaxing tour the cycle path alongside the river Drau is highly recommended. This cycle path is the most popular track among tourists and leads you, slightly downhill, alongside the river Drau from the South Tyrolean border to the city of Lienz and past our country house “Strickenmacher”. The “Drauradwegwirte Osttirol” serve as the perfect base camp for the cycling tour. They offer especially adapted regional specialities and are a lovely location for a pause. The cycling path alongside the river Drau – called Drauradweg – as well as the path alongside the river Isel – called Iselradweg – count among the most beautiful European cycling tracks. The Drauradweg, which leads through the vastest valley bottom of the Tyrol, the “Lienzer Becken”, is ideal for cycling tours with the whole family. At the end of the tour there is only one question left: Whether to go back to the starting point by bike or by train?
Downhill-biking in East Tyrol
The „Bike Park Hochstein Lienz“ is another highlight for mountain bikers since summer of 2017. Mountain bikers can go out in search of the much-sought sense of pleasure on the downhill route in Lienz or they can demonstrate their skills on the “Single trail Hochstein” while overviewing the sunshine city Lienz. The trails lead past branches and bushes, beneath the cable car and back into the valley and are a pleasure to everyone. You can also go up with the cable car.
Trial biking in the Adventure Park East Tyrol
In summer, you can improve your body control, your balance as well as your concentration and strength on your trial bike with help of professional instructors in the new Adventure Park East Tyrol in Ainet. You can go by trial bike whether you are in the open countryside or in the city. In the Adventure Park East Tyrol there is the possibility for professionals as well as for beginners to try this popular sport using tree trunks, stones and pallets – you can turn East Tyrol into your own playground.
